The first cohort of NSF Engines programs, created under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, demonstrated a strong return on investment, receiving $135 million in federal funding in 2024 and attracting over $2 billion in additional funding from private, nonprofit, and state government partners. Clemson's senior vice president for research, Tanju Karanfil, emphasized the university's ability to design and test emerging technologies that will secure the energy future of the United States, while Anand Gramopadhye, dean of Clemson University College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences, highlighted the importance of collaboration between engineers and researchers. The project's success is a testament to Clemson's expertise and industry collaboration, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the region's energy infrastructure and economic development.
