France's health authorities are investigating the deaths of two infants who consumed potentially contaminated powdered milk, sparking a broader recall of infant formula products. The deaths occurred in Bordeaux and Angers, with one baby dying at just two weeks old and the other at 27 days. The infants consumed Nestle milk, which was later recalled due to the presence of cereulide, a toxin causing diarrhoea and vomiting. Despite no direct link being established, the authorities are taking the situation seriously, and Nestle has pledged cooperation. The company asserts there's no evidence linking its products to the deaths. Danone has also initiated a voluntary recall of specific batches in France, citing new European guidelines. This follows a similar recall by Singapore authorities of Dumex baby formula, a brand owned by the French food giant. Lactalis, another French company, has also recalled batches in France and several other countries, raising concerns about cereulide contamination. The affected countries include Australia, Chile, China, and more, highlighting the global impact of this health crisis.
